Zortorin Tablet

1. What Zortorin is and what it is used for

Zortorin contains cefditoren pivoxil, a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the third-generation cephalosporin group.

It works by killing bacteria that cause infections.

Zortorin is used in adults and adolescents (12 years and above) to treat:

  • Chest infections (including pneumonia)
  • Worsening of chronic bronchitis
  • Throat infections (pharyngitis/tonsillitis)
  • Skin and soft tissue infections

2. What you need to know before you take Zortorin

Do not take Zortorin if:

  • You are allergic to cefditoren, cephalosporins, or any ingredients of this medicine
  • You have carnitine deficiency or related metabolic disorders

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor before taking Zortorin if:

  • You are allergic to penicillin or other antibiotics
  • You develop severe diarrhoea during or after treatment
  • You have kidney or liver problems
  • You are on long-term antibiotic therapy
  • You are taking anticoagulants

Prolonged use may lead to resistant infections.

Other medicines and Zortorin
Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • Antacids or acid-reducing medicines (may reduce effectiveness)
  • H2-receptor antagonists (e.g., famotidine)
  • Probenecid (may increase drug levels)
  • Oral contraceptives (generally safe to use together)

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed
  • Breastfeeding: Use with caution

Consult your doctor before use.

Driving and using machines
Zortorin is not expected to affect your ability to drive or use machines.

3. How to take Zortorin

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

  • Take with meals to improve absorption
  • Swallow tablets whole with water

Special populations

  • Kidney problems: Dose adjustment may be required
  • Liver problems: Usually no adjustment needed

If you take more than you should
Symptoms may include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Convulsions

Contact your doctor immediately.

If you forget to take a dose
If you forget to take Zortorin Tablets, take your dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, just skip that dose and take the next one when it is due. If in doubt, please contact your doctor or pharmacist. If you have to skip a dose, still take all of your tablets. This means that you will finish your course a day later. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects.

Common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 100 people):

  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Abdominal pain
  • Indigestion

Uncommon side effects:

  • Dizziness
  • Rash
  • Vomiting
  • Fungal infections

Serious side effects (seek medical help immediately):

  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Severe diarrhoea (possible colitis)
  • Skin reactions (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

5. How to store Zortorin

  • Store below 30°C
  • Protect from light and moisture
  • Keep out of reach of children

Do not use after the expiry date.

What Zortorin contains

  • Active substance: Cefditoren pivoxil equivalent to cefditoren 200 mg
  • Other ingredients: Excipients, colouring agents
