Zormox-CV ES Dry Syrup

Read all this information carefully before you start taking this medicine.

  • This medicine has been prescribed for you only. Do not pass it on to others. It may harm them, even if their signs of illness are the same as yours.

1. What Zormox-CV ES is and what it is used for

Zormox-CV ES is an antibiotic containing:

  • Amoxycillin (kills bacteria)
  • Clavulanic acid (helps amoxycillin work against resistant bacteria)

It is used in children (3 months and older) to treat bacterial infections such as:

  • Ear infections (acute or recurrent otitis media)
  • Throat infections (tonsillitis, pharyngitis)
  • Sinus infections
  • Chest infections (bronchopneumonia)

This medicine works only against bacterial infections and will not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

2. What you need to know before you give Zormox-CV ES

Do not give this medicine if your child:

  • Is allergic to amoxycillin, clavulanic acid, penicillins or similar antibiotics
  • Has ever had a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics
  • Has had liver problems or jaundice with this medicine before

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor before giving this medicine if your child:

  • Has kidney or liver problems
  • Has glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis)
  • Has a history of allergies
  • Develops severe diarrhoea during or after treatment

Serious allergic reactions may occur. Stop the medicine and seek urgent medical help if your child develops:

  • Swelling of face, lips or throat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Severe skin rash

Prolonged use may cause new infections due to resistant organisms.

Other medicines and Zormox-CV ES
Tell your doctor if your child is taking:

  • Probenecid
  • Allopurinol
  • Blood thinners (e.g., warfarin)
  • Mycophenolate mofetil
  • Oral contraceptives (effect may be reduced)

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Use during pregnancy only if considered essential by the doctor
  • Can be used during breastfeeding, but may cause mild effects such as diarrhoea in infants

Driving and using machines
No significant effects are expected. However, if your child feels unwell, avoid activities requiring alertness.

Important advice for parents/caregivers

  • Antibiotics treat bacterial infections only
  • Always complete the full course
  • Do not skip doses
  • Contact your doctor if diarrhoea is severe or lasts more than 2–3 days
  • Do not share this medicine with others

3. How to give Zormox-CV ES

Always give this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

General instructions

  • Give at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset
  • Shake well before use
  • Use the measuring device provided
  • Complete the full prescribed course

Dose

  • Recommended dose: 90 mg/6.4 mg per kg per day, divided into two doses (every 12 hours)
  • Usually given for 10 days
  • Not recommended for:
    • Children below 3 months
    • Children weighing more than 40 kg

If you give too much
May cause stomach upset or kidney problems

If you forget a dose
Give as soon as you remember
Do not give a double dose

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fungal infections (e.g., oral thrush)

Uncommon:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Indigestion

Rare:

  • Changes in blood counts

Very rare/serious (seek immediate medical help):

  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
  • Severe skin reactions (blistering, peeling)
  • Liver problems (yellowing of skin or eyes)
  • Severe diarrhoea (colitis)
  • Convulsions

Other possible effects:

  • Tooth discolouration (usually removable by brushing)
  • Increased liver enzymes

5. How to store Zormox-CV ES

  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children
  • Store below 25°C
  • Protect from light and moisture
  • Do not use after the expiry date

6. Contents of the pack and other information

What Zormox-CV ES contains

Each 5 mL of suspension contains:

  • Amoxycillin – 600 mg
  • Clavulanic acid – 42.9 mg

What the pack contains

  • Bottle of dry syrup
  • Sterile water for reconstitution
