1. What Zormox CV is and what it is used for

Zormox CV is an antibiotic that contains two active substances: amoxicillin and clavulanic acid.

  • Amoxicillin belongs to a group of medicines called penicillins.
  • Clavulanic acid helps prevent bacteria from destroying amoxicillin.

Zormox CV is used to treat bacterial infections such as:

  • Sinus infections
  • Ear infections (otitis media)
  • Tonsillitis
  • Bronchitis (acute and chronic)
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Bone infections (osteomyelitis)
  • Pelvic infections

2. What you need to know before you take Zormox CV

Do not take Zormox CV if:

  • You are allergic to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillins or similar antibiotics
  • You have ever had liver problems or jaundice caused by this medicine

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you:

  • Have a history of allergies
  • Have liver or kidney problems
  • Have glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis)
  • Develop severe diarrhoea during or after treatment

Serious allergic reactions, including life-threatening reactions, may occur. Stop taking the medicine and seek medical help immediately if symptoms such as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing occur.

Other medicines and Zormox CV
Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • Probenecid
  • Allopurinol
  • Blood thinners (e.g., warfarin)
  • Methotrexate
  • Mycophenolate mofetil
  • Oral contraceptives (effect may be reduced)

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

  • Avoid use during pregnancy unless prescribed by your doctor
  • Can be used during breastfeeding, but may cause sensitivity in the infant

Driving and using machines
No known effects on ability to drive or use machines.

3. How to take Zormox CV

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

  • Take at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset
  • Swallow tablets whole (do not break)
  • Treatment should not exceed 14 days without medical review

Adults and children over 12 years
Mild to moderate infections:

  • One 625 mg tablet every 12 hours

Severe infections:

  • One 1 g tablet every 12 hours
  • OR
  • One 625 mg tablet every 8 hours

Patients with kidney problems

  • CrCl 10–30 mL/min: 625 mg every 12 hours
  • CrCl <10 mL/min: 625 mg every 24 hours
  • Haemodialysis: 625 mg every 24 hours, plus one additional dose during and after dialysis

If you take more than you should
Symptoms may include:

  • Stomach upset
  • Vomiting
  • Fluid imbalance

Contact your doctor immediately.

If you forget to take a dose
Take it as soon as you remember
Do not take a double dose

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects.

Very common:

  • Diarrhoea

Common:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fungal infections (e.g., thrush)

Uncommon:

  • Skin rash
  • Itching
  • Indigestion
  • Headache
  • Dizziness

Rare:

  • Blood disorders (low white cells, platelets)
  • Erythema multiforme

Very rare:

  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
  • Liver problems (hepatitis, jaundice)
  • Severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Convulsions (especially in high doses or kidney problems)
  • Kidney inflammation

Serious side effects – seek medical help immediately:

  • Swelling of face/lips/throat
  • Severe skin rash or blistering
  • Persistent diarrhoea (possibly with blood)
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes

5. How to store Zormox CV

  • Store below 25°C
  • Protect from moisture
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children

What Zormox CV contains

  • Amoxicillin (500 mg or 875 mg)
  • Clavulanic acid (125 mg)
  • Other ingredients include excipients and colouring agent (Titanium dioxide)
