Tusvia Plus Syrup

Read all this information carefully before you start taking this medicine.

1. What Tusvia Plus Syrup is and what it is used for

Tusvia Plus Syrup contains two medicines:

  • Levodropropizine – a cough suppressant that acts on the airways
  • Chlorpheniramine maleate – an antihistamine that reduces allergy symptoms

This medicine is used for the treatment of dry (non-productive) cough, especially when associated with allergies.

2. What you need to know before you take Tusvia Plus Syrup

Do not take Tusvia Plus Syrup if:

  • You are allergic to levodropropizine, chlorpheniramine, or any ingredients
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have severe liver disease
  • You have bronchorrhoea or impaired mucociliary function (e.g., Kartagener syndrome)
  • You are taking or have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) within the last 14 days
  • It is for children below 2 years of age

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if:

  • You have kidney problems (especially severe renal impairment)
  • You have liver disease
  • You have heart or circulatory problems
  • You have asthma, bronchitis, or breathing disorders
  • You have glaucoma or difficulty passing urine (prostate enlargement)
  • You have thyroid disorders or epilepsy

This medicine should be used for short-term treatment only.
If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.
Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Children and elderly patients are more sensitive to side effects such as:

  • Drowsiness
  • Irritability
  • Restlessness

Other medicines and Tusvia Plus Syrup
Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • Sedatives, sleeping pills, or alcohol (may increase drowsiness)
  • Antidepressants or MAO inhibitors
  • Anticholinergic medicines (e.g., atropine)
  • Phenytoin (risk of toxicity)
  • Other medicines affecting the central nervous system

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Do not use during pregnancy
→ May harm the unborn baby
Do not use during breastfeeding
→ Passes into breast milk and may affect the infant or reduce milk production

Driving and using machines
This medicine may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery if affected.
Avoid alcohol.

3. How to take Tusvia Plus Syrup

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

Recommended doses:

Adults and children ≥12 years: 10 ml, three times daily

Children 6–12 years: 5 ml, three times daily

Children 2–6 years: 2.5 ml, three times daily

Maintain at least 6 hours interval between doses.

Special populations
Elderly: Use with caution; increased sensitivity may occur
Kidney impairment: Use cautiously in severe cases (creatinine clearance <35 ml/min)
Liver impairment: Avoid in severe liver disease

Important instructions

  • Take by mouth only
  • Do not exceed prescribed dose
  • Use for short duration only
  • Stop when symptoms improve

If you take more than you should
There is limited experience. Seek medical help immediately. Supportive treatment may be required.

If you forget to take a dose
Do not take a double dose. Continue as prescribed.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects.

Very common side effects include drowsiness (sedation).

Common side effects may include dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and vomiting.

Rare or very rare side effects include palpitations or fast heart rate, low blood pressure, breathing difficulty, allergic reactions (such as rash, swelling, or itching), and weakness or fatigue.

Other possible effects that may occur include confusion, irritability (especially in children and elderly), blurred vision, urinary retention, and liver-related problems such as hepatitis or jaundice, as well as severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).

You should stop taking this medicine and seek medical help immediately if you experience difficulty breathing, severe allergic reactions, irregular heartbeat, or severe drowsiness or confusion.

5. How to store Tusvia Plus Syrup

  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children
  • Store below 30°C
  • Protect from light
  • Do not use after the expiry date

  • Levodropropizine 30 mg
  • Chlorpheniramine Maleate 2 mg (per 5 ml)
