1. What is TamibidTM-75 Capsules and what is it used for

TamibidTM-75 contains oseltamivir, an antiviral medicine used for influenza.

This medicine works only against influenza viruses and not other infections.

2. What you need to know before you take TamibidTM-75 Capsules

Do not take TamibidTM-75:

  • If you are allergic to oseltamivir or any of the ingredients

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if:

  • You have kidney problems
  • You have a serious medical condition
  • You have heart or lung disease
  • You have a weakened immune system
  • You notice unusual behaviour changes (especially in children)

Important:

  • This medicine is not a substitute for flu vaccination
  • It works only if started within 2 days of symptoms

Other medicines and TamibidTM-75
Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • Probenecid
  • Methotrexate
  • Chlorpropamide
  • Phenylbutazone

Oseltamivir generally has low chances of drug interactions.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Can be used if clearly needed and prescribed by your doctor
  • Small amounts may pass into breast milk

Driving and using machines
No effect on ability to drive or use machines

3. How to take TamibidTM-75 Capsules?

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

Adults and adolescents (13 years and over)
Treatment of influenza

  • The recommended dose is 75 mg twice daily for 5 days
  • For immunocompromised patients: 75 mg twice daily for 10 days
  • Treatment should be started as soon as possible within the first 2 days of symptoms

Post-exposure prevention

  • The recommended dose is 75 mg once daily for 10 days
  • For immunocompromised patients: 75 mg once daily for 10 days

Prevention during influenza outbreak

  • The recommended dose is 75 mg once daily for up to 6 weeks
  • For immunocompromised patients: Up to 12 weeks

Children (1 to 12 years of age)
Treatment of influenza

  • For body weight > 40 kg: 75 mg twice daily for 5 days
  • For immunocompromised patients: 75 mg twice daily for 10 days
  • Treatment should be started within the first 2 days of symptoms

Post-exposure prevention

  • For body weight > 40 kg: 75 mg once daily for 10 days
  • For immunocompromised patients: 75 mg once daily for 10 days

Prevention during influenza outbreak
Not studied in children below 12 years of age

Special populations
Liver problems (Hepatic impairment): No dose adjustment is required

Kidney problems (Renal impairment)
Treatment of influenza

  • 60 ml/min: 75 mg twice daily
  • 30 to 60 ml/min: 30 mg twice daily
  • 10 to 30 ml/min: 30 mg once daily
  • ≤ 10 ml/min: Not recommended
  • Haemodialysis: 30 mg after each session
  • Peritoneal dialysis: 30 mg single dose

Prevention of influenza

  • 60 ml/min: 75 mg once daily
  • 30 to 60 ml/min: 30 mg once daily
  • 10 to 30 ml/min: 30 mg every second day
  • ≤ 10 ml/min: Not recommended
  • Haemodialysis: 30 mg after every second session
  • Peritoneal dialysis: 30 mg once weekly

There is insufficient data for dosing in children (≤12 years) with kidney problems

Elderly: No dose adjustment required unless there is moderate or severe renal impairment

Immunocompromised patients: Treatment duration: 10 days. Start treatment within the first 2 days of symptoms. Seasonal prevention may be used for up to 12 weeks.

4. Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very common:

  • Headache

Common:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose
  • Fever
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue

Uncommon:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Skin rash
  • Insomnia (difficulty sleeping)
  • Altered consciousness
  • Convulsions
  • Liver enzyme changes

Rare but serious:

  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
  • Severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Liver problems
  • Abnormal behaviour, hallucinations, confusion (especially in children)

Stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical help if you notice:

  • Swelling of face/lips/throat
  • Severe skin rash or peeling
  • Unusual behaviour or confusion

5. How to store TamibidTM-75 Capsules?

  • Store below 25°C, protect from light & moisture.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
