1. What Rhinam Syrup is and what it is used for?

Rhinam Syrup contains levocetirizine dihydrochloride, an antihistamine that helps relieve allergy symptoms by blocking the action of histamine (H1‑receptor antagonist). It is used for the symptomatic treatment of perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis (e.g., sneezing, runny or itchy nose) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives).

2. What you need to know before you take Rhinam Syrup?

Do not take Rhinam Syrup if you or your child:

  • are allergic to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or any of the ingredients of this medicine (reactions may include rash, hives, swelling, or anaphylaxis)
  • have severe impairment of kidney function (creatinine clearance <10 mL/min) or are undergoing hemodialysis
  • are a child 6 months to 11 years old with impaired kidney function.

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor before taking RHINAM SYRUP:

  • If you are likely to be unable to empty your bladder (with conditions such as spinal cord injury or enlarged prostate), please ask your doctor for advice.
  • If you suffer from epilepsy or are at risk of convulsions, please ask your doctor for advice as use of RHINAM SYRUP may cause seizure aggravation.
  • If you are scheduled for allergy testing, ask your doctor if you should stop taking RHINAM SYRUP for several days before testing. This medicine may affect your allergy test result.

Children
The use of RHINAM SYRUP is not recommended for children under 6 months of age.

Other medicines and RHINAM SYRUP
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines including those obtained without a prescription.

RHINAM SYRUP with food, drink and alcohol
Caution is advised if RHINAM SYRUP is taken at the same time as alcohol or other agents acting on the brain. In sensitive patients, the concurrent administration of RHINAM SYRUP and alcohol or other agents acting on the brain may cause additional reductions in alertness and impairment of performance. RHINAM SYRUP can be taken with or without food.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Driving and using machines
Some patients being treated with RHINAM SYRUP may experience somnolence/drowsiness, tiredness and exhaustion. Use caution when driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. However, special tests have revealed no impairment of mental alertness, the ability to react or the ability to drive in healthy test persons after taking levocetirizine in the recommended dosage.

3. How to take Rhinam Syrup?

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Use an accurate measuring device (spoon/cup/syringe). Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Recommended doses

  • Adults and adolescents (12 years and above): 5 mg once daily (= 10 mL of solution).
  • Children 6 to 12 years: 2.5 mg once daily (= 5 mL of solution).
  • Children 6 months to 5 years: 1.25 mg once daily in the evening (= 2.5 mL of solution). Do not exceed 1.25 mg once daily in this age group

Patients with kidney problems: Your doctor may increase the interval between doses based on kidney function; do not use if you have end‑stage renal disease or if a child (6 months–11 years) has impaired renal function.

If you take more Rhinam Syrup than you should (overdose)
Symptoms may include drowsiness in adults, and in children agitation/restlessness followed by drowsiness. There is no specific antidote. Seek medical advice immediately.

If you forget a dose
Do not take a double dose to make up for the forgotten dose. Take your next, normal dose, the next day, at your usual time.

If you stop taking Rhinam Syrup
Do not stop unless your doctor tells you to. If itching (pruritus) develops after stopping—especially after long‑term use—contact your doctor; symptoms may improve if treatment is restarted and then tapered.
