1. What Ilyp-XT Tablets are and what they are used for?
Ilyp-XT Tablets contain Ferrous Ascorbate and Folic Acid, which are important for the formation of healthy red blood cells.
It works by: • Providing elemental iron, which helps in the production of haemoglobin and red blood cells • Supplying folic acid, which supports red blood cell formation and helps prevent folate deficiency • Helping correct iron deficiency anaemia and restore depleted iron and folate stores
Ilyp-XT Tablets are used for: • Treatment of iron deficiency anaemia • Correction of iron and folate deficiency states, especially when advised by your doctor • Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, when prescribed by a doctor, to support increased iron and folate requirements
2. What you need to know before you take Ilyp-XT Tablets?
Do not take Ilyp-XT Tablets if you:
are allergic to Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid, or any of the ingredients • have Vitamin B12 deficiency • have certain blood disorders, such as paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria • have haemosiderosis or haemochromatosis • have had or are having repeated blood transfusions • have an active peptic ulcer • have certain bowel conditions such as regional enteritis or ulcerative colitis • have anaemia not caused by iron deficiency
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor before taking Ilyp-XT Tablets if:
you have been treated for or have a history of peptic ulcer disease • you have had all or part of your stomach removed (gastrectomy) • you have or may have a folate-dependent tumour • your anaemia does not improve with iron treatment alone • you may have associated Vitamin B12 or folate deficiency
Special precautions
Ilyp-XT Tablets contain iron. Keep out of the sight and reach of children, as overdose may be fatal • Your doctor may advise further investigations if microcytic anaemia does not respond to iron therapy alone • Treatment should be taken only under medical supervision
Other medicines and Ilyp-XT Tablets
Tell your doctor if you are taking:
antibiotics, such as fluoroquinolones, tetracyclines, co-trimoxazole, chloramphenicol, sulphonamides, or neomycin • penicillamine • levodopa or carbidopa • thyroxine • bisphosphonates • antacids • zinc supplements • methyldopa • cholestyramine • trientine • sulphasalazine • aminopterin, methotrexate, or pyrimethamine • anticonvulsant medicines (used for epilepsy)
These medicines may affect how Ilyp-XT Tablets work or be affected by them.
Ilyp-XT with food and drink
If tea, coffee, milk, or eggs are taken at the same time as Ilyp-XT Tablets, the body may absorb less iron • This may reduce the effect of the medicine • It may be taken with or after food if stomach upset occurs
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, consult your doctor before use • Ilyp-XT Tablets are suitable for use during pregnancy, when prescribed by your doctor • Ilyp-XT Tablets are also suitable for use during breastfeeding, as advised by your doctor
Driving and using machines
Ilyp-XT Tablets have no influence on the ability to drive or use machines
3. How to take Ilyp-XT Tablets?
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.
General dosage:
Adults: One tablet once daily • Your doctor may adjust the dose depending on your clinical condition
How to take
Swallow the tablet whole with water • Take regularly as prescribed • It may be taken with or after food if stomach upset occurs
If you take more Ilyp-XT than you should
Overdose may cause abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness, dizziness, collapse, convulsions, or breathing difficulty • Acute iron overdose is a medical emergency, especially in children • Contact your doctor or nearest hospital immediately
If you forget a dose
Do not take a double dose • Take the next dose at the usual time
If you stop taking Ilyp-XT
• Do not stop treatment without consulting your doctor • Continue treatment for as long as prescribed, even if symptoms improve • Your doctor may advise continued treatment to replenish iron stores
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
